Trafford Council provides digital boost for pupils

Dozens of Trafford pupils have been given laptops as part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to tackle digital exclusion.

The Council has provided 150 laptops to selected pupils to help ensure every child can get online and access their learning.

The donated devices have been shared across seven schools and given to pupils who struggle to complete homework or take part in online learning because they do not have access to a computer at home. By stepping in, Trafford Council is helping to level the playing field so that every child and young person has the same opportunities to succeed.

This latest round of donations comes on top of the more than 100 free laptops already provided to Trafford pupils since the start of 2024.
The devices, donated by local businesses, were carefully refurbished by the Council’s tech-partners, Community Computers and RecycleIT, before being given to pupils in need.

The initiative is part of Trafford Council’s ongoing commitment to tackling digital exclusion, supporting education and ensuring every child has the tools they need to reach their potential.

A spokesperson for Trafford Council said:

“These laptops will make a real difference to pupils who might otherwise struggle to take part fully in their education, helping to bridge the gap between those who have and those who do not.”

Michelle O’Neill, Special Educational Needs Coordinator and Assistant Principal at Wellacre Academy, said:

“For our young people, these laptops are so much more than just equipment. They open doors to learning, connection and opportunity that many of them would otherwise miss out on. For pupils who often face additional barriers, this support shows them that they matter and that their future is worth investing in.”

This project is part of Trafford Tech4All, the Council’s award-winning programme to tackle digital exclusion. Over the past two years, the scheme has supported hundreds of residents to get online, supplying over 1,000 laptops, 4,269 free O2 SIM plans, and training in essential digital skills.
